At Widenham Retirement Village, we have created community of togetherness. And our what sets our vibrant lifestyle apart is the activities and community clubs. We have something for everyone, whether you love the great outdoors, the arts and cultural scene or simply meeting friends at your local.
Inspired by creativity
The spirit of giving and creativity flourishes through our Crafty Chicks club. This enthusiastic group extends their warmth and talent beyond the village, touching the lives of the children at District 49, a local shelter for youths aged 3 to 18. With heartfelt initiatives, including fulfilling birthday and Christmas wishes and organising vibrant activities, our Crafty Chicks are dedicated to spreading happiness and nurturing hope within the community.
Adventure in the heart of Nature
Our recent expedition through the Umdoni Reserve’s trails was a testament to the adventurous spirit of Widenham’s residents. Forty participants embarked on a journey through the reserve’s captivating indigenous forests and grasslands, marvelling at the enchanting dam adorned with lilies and the orchestral birdsong along Wendy’s Way. The expedition, rich in nature’s splendour and camaraderie, concluded with a delightful breakfast at Umdoni Golf Club. We extend our gratitude to Noel and Beth Jessup for guiding us through this adventurous escapade.
A birdwatcher’s paradise
Within the tranquil bounds of Widenham Retirement Village lies a treasure trove for bird enthusiasts. The area is a sanctuary for diverse species, including the elusive Lesser Moorhen and the melodic Scaly-throated and Lesser Honeyguides. The village’s serene environment, particularly near the nesting areas of the Black Collared Barbet, offers a splendid backdrop for observing these feathered marvels in their natural habitat.
A night of melodies and memories
An evening with Judith Hawthorn’s ‘I Love a Show Tune’ was an unforgettable experience, blending talent, humour, and nostalgia. Judith’s exceptional vocal and keyboard talents, intertwined with her engaging anecdotes, led us on a delightful journey through classic musical hits. It goes without saying that we all enjoyed a night filled with laughter and song.
Celebrating our community champions
Congratulations are in order for our ‘100 Board Draw’ victors of February 2024 at Widenham Retirement Village. Brenda Clark, Cindy Binks, and Joe Davies stood out with their wins, and a special mention to Jesse Adkins for his impressive achievement in the KBA Men’s Novice Singles semi-finals, bringing home a Bronze medal. These moments of achievement and celebration are what make our community at Widenham truly special.
